Collaborative Projects

Along with Susan Kuner, former Director of the Vanderbilt Virtual School, Judy Butler helped to found the Tennessee Arts and Sciences Consortium, whose mission it is to bring together diverse institutions to promote an interdisciplinary approach to curriculum development. The consortium currently has over 125 members from public and private school systems, universities, museums, and other agencies interested in developing cross-curricular activities and curriculum for K-12 schools. Judy Butler is currently the chairperson for the planning committee.

To Increase Capacity of Underrepresented Students

SECME is a strategic alliance to renew and strengthen the professional capacity of K-12 educators, motivate and mentor students, and empower parents so that all students can learn and achieve at higher levels.
Our Mission. SECME’s goal is to increase the pool of historically underrepresented,* under-served, and differently abled students who will be prepared to enter and complete post-secondary studies in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology, thus creating a diverse and globally competitive workforce.

MU-SPIN To help train the next generation of NASA’s minority scientists and engineers, NASA created the Minority University-SPace Interdisciplinary Network (MU-SPIN). MU-SPIN was started in 1990 by the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs and has remained a highly effective tool as it has continually grown and evolved over the past decade. The program serves America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Tribal Colleges.
