Take Flight Into Scientific Investigation

A teacher workshop was held as part of the Celebration of Flight and World Space Week Funded by the NASA Ideas Grant and sponsored by Vanderbilt University and Tennessee State University

Dr. Rick Chappell, Director of Dyer Observatory of Vanderbilt University Dr. Rick Chappell was the Key Note speaker for this event. He showed slides from his astronaut training program with NASA. Dr. Chappell spoke to over 150 students, teachers, and parents.

80 plus students between 3rd and 12th grade participated in the Young Eagles program.

Laurette Cousineau presented information about inquiry and how to design a research project using flight as a theme.
 

Outstanding Teacher

Sue McFerson was given an award for outstanding service to the community for her work in aeronautic education. Ms. McFerson, a teacher at Hendersonville High School and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, also accepted the return of the Tennessee flag that flew on the Russian Space Station MIR.

 

A Sumner County teacher won a great doorprise at the Flight Workshop...A Flight Lesson.

The door prize was Donated by Jet Harbor Inc., owned by Mary and Damian Weber, Operators of the Sumner County Regional Airport.

 

 

Students learned a lot about how aircraft fly with Captain Aeronautics!
 
 
Judy Butler was a presenter at the teacher workshop and was treated to a flight as her reward.
