Astrobiology Workshop:

From Tang to Television

Overview

Astrobiology Workshop entitled: "From Tang to Television"
Sponsored by Tennessee State University and the Cumberland Science Museum
September 7, 2002 8:00 AM -3:30PM
Location: Cumberland Science Museum

What do CAT scanners and MRI technology, Tang, satellite TV, and beauty makeovers all have in common? They all use technologies that were developed for the space program or became a part of the culture as a result of their use in space travel.

Tang was not developed by the space program but by General Foods. It became popular when taken into space as a "tangy" cosmic drink.. CAT scanners and MRI technology are a direct benefit of research done in developing the space program.

To bring the excitement of space technology into the classroom, Tennessee State University teamed up with the Cumberland Science Museum to offer teachers from across Tennessee an all day workshop entitled, "From Tang to Television" on September 7, 2002.

Teachers are encouraged to celebrate World Space Week. This year's theme for World Space Week is "Space and Daily Life". World Space Week, sponsored by the United Nations, will be October 4-10, 2002. Below are resources for information that could be covered in units related to the theme.
