The Upper-Middle Tennessee Historical Consortium
Program Title: TEACH
Implemented by Volunteer State Community College and Wilson County Schools
Project Abstract
The Tennessee Educators' Active Colloquia in History, TEACH, is entering its consecutive three year grant for improving the teaching of American history in rural counties in Tennessee. The program offers professional development sponsored by Volunteer State Community College and its partners designed specifically to implement the new American history curriculum standards outlined in the 2001 Tennessee State Curriculum Standards. Activities include summer institutes, extensive follow-up activities through out the academic year, special access to ongoing lectures and seminars by historians sponsored by educational and cultural institutions throughout middle Tennessee. Travel opportunities are provided to attend and participate in national and statewide conferences sponsored by professional organizations that promote history and weeklong summer experiences in Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, and visits to other national landmarks. Dragonfly Enterprises provides the external evaluation for the TEACH program.
