Tennessee's First Frontier Teaching American History Consortium
Implemented by the Heritage Alliance and Johnson City Schools
Project Abstract
The Tennessee's First Frontier Teaching American History Consortium Project will implement a systematic array of strategies over three years including Summer Institutes at ETSU, follow-up Mini-Institutes offered throughout the region during the academic year, innovative workshops on "Teaching History through Storytelling," and other activities designed to enhance the teaching of American history in the classroom. The TFFC Project will enhance teachers' knowledge of and instructional abilities in traditional American history in a variety of ways. The project design has three main areas of focus for teachers: 1) creating academic dialogues among teachers and professional historians; 2) developing and communicating a range of teaching strategies to increase students' interest in and understanding of American history; and 3) providing access to technology integration strategies for teaching American history. Dragonfly Enterprises provides the external evaluation for the First Frontier project.
